This past week, E.L. James was the first to announce Charlie Hunnam as the lead role in the upcoming movie, Fifty shades of Grey. The number one New York times bestseller follows the relationship of a quirky, naïve girl that has just graduated college and a successful, emotionally damaged young entrepreneur. The two meet and fall head over heels in lust. E.L. James’ sultry adult novel has sold over 70 million copies worldwide.
What Fans Have to Say
The popular Sons of Anarchy star has gotten mixed reviews when it comes to his selection for the role. Some fans of the novel say that he does not match the appearance of Christian Grey, the handsome but troubled billionaire at the heart of the story. Fans of Charlie Hunnam say that he is too good for the provocative and controversial role.
Whatever the case may be, Charlie Hunnam has certainly shown that he has fifty shades of acting in him. He has starred in such diverse rolls as a street fighter in green Street Hooligans, a biker kingpin in Sons of anarchy, and most recently a hero in the futuristic action movie, Pacific Rim. Hunnam seems to gravitate towards roles of the hero or arch-villain; he will get to be a little bit of both in Fifty Shades of Grey.
Acting beside him in the role of Anastasia Steel will be Dakota Johnson, the daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith. A yet largely unknown actress on her own, Dakota may be a perfect choice to bring to life the sweetly awkward Ms. Steel. The film is set to release in August of 2014.
