The rumors have been flying that George Clooney is getting married after his girlfriend of six months, Amal Alamuddin, was seen at dinner in April wearing a huge diamond ring on that finger. Clooney, in traditional Clooney fashion, did not confirm nor deny the engagement. The fact that he didn’t deny led paparazzi and tabloids to broadcast the engagement as a fact, although most news sources were careful to state that Clooney has not come forward and made the announcement formally. Well, now the rumor mill can rest easy, because Clooney’s dad has indeed confirmed the engagement and pending marriage. Clooney, Alamuddin, and close friends and family celebrated the engagement as well as Clooney’s birthday at Alamuddin’s London home over the weekend.
Clooney’s Fiancé and the Ring
Amal Alamuddin is a human rights lawyer in the U.K. that had a little bit of fame come her way when she represented Julian Assange, the WikiLeaks founder. Alamuddin was also named the hottest barrister in London. Clooney played on this recognition by sending Alamuddin a light-hearted email suggesting that “reported hottest man in the world should meet with the hottest human rights lawyer in the world.” Clooney’s charm apparently worked on Alamuddin, as the two have been spotted by paparazzi many times since, appearing very happy with one another’s company.
The ring that Clooney bought Alamuddin has also been garnering some serious attention. The total value of the ring is about $750,000, a modest sum for many Hollywood couples. However, the huge diamond that was “ethically mined” is large and blingy, and very easy to spot. Best of luck to these two beautiful, successful people!
