“A Broadway Christmas Carol” Delights this Season

All across the nation, there are Christmas events to go to, some tear-jerking, some heartwarming, and some just downright hilarious. MetroStage’s “A Broadway Christmas Carol” is one of the latter. Nestled in Virginia, MetroStage brings the fun of Broadway to the southern half. “A Broadway Christmas Carol” airs for the fourth time at the MetroStage this year.

Spoofs and Flubs

Created 15 years ago, the comical musical is meant to put a twist on the old tale of Ebenezer Scrooge. Michael Sharp directs the show, and in the last few performances he has also played the role of Scrooge. Together with cast mates Tracey Stephens, Peter Boyer, and Russell Sunday, a playful and unconventional version of the classic tale is born. Audience members rave that the show is a great way to start the holiday season belly laughing. Musical director and pianist Howard Breitbart keeps the music in line with the show, bringing it all together.

The show is performed at a fast pace, keeping the audience guessing when it comes to impromptu flubs and glitches that add to the slap-stick comedy effect. The cast mates are masters of improve, and perform all of the roles throughout the show. “A Broadway Christmas Carol” takes a page from the book of “Forbidden Broadway”, a New York spectacular known for its spoofs of the most popular shows of the time. The actors have fun in “A Broadway Christmas carol”, and they bring the audience along for the ride.
