The happiest place on earth will now cost you even more to see. Setting a new precedence for theme parks in Orlando, Florida and across the country, Walt Disney World’s signature theme park The Magic Kingdom raised its single day admission price to $99 for anyone over the age of 10. Although slightly less costly than The Magic Kingdom, Walt Disney World raised prices to $94 on its other theme parks, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios. Disney has also raised the park hopper and multiple day options slightly, but these options come at a much better value than just purchasing the single day, one park ticket.

Reasons for the Increase

The price increase has become an annual custom, but it generally comes in June, when the majority of schools across the country let out for the summer. This year, though, Walt Disney World has seen a traffic increase with the brutal winter weather that many states have been experiencing. Walt Disney World decided to capitalize on the traffic increase, and initiate the price increase early. Walt Disney World is unconcerned that the price increase will affect traffic, as Disney stands as the Mecca for American children.

Typically, other Orlando theme parks raise prices to about the same level, and Universal Studios has already followed suit with an increase to $96 for a single day ticket. It is unclear whether SeaWorld will be joining in with a price increase after all of the negative publicity surrounding the documentary “Blackfish.” SeaWorld has seen many celebrities cancel shows in the wake of the backlash from the movie, although the company reports that profits have not been hurt by the movie. The current price of a SeaWorld ticket is $82. What do you think of the price increase? Is $99 too much to pay for one day at Disney?
