While most new singers about to go on their very first tour would swoon at the chance to open for Katy Perry, Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor, better known by her stage name Lorde, is not most new singers. Katy Perry asked the young up-and-coming singer if she would like to go on her upcoming world tour with her, and Lorde refused.
Reasons behind Refusal
Lorde explained that the reason behind her refusal is that “In the really early stages of an artist’s career, it’s important for them to establish themselves for themselves. I’m just basically really stubborn and I want to be really independent.” Lorde added that she will be headlining her own tour, rather than supporting someone else. Some thought that the sixteen-year-old singer was cocky for opting to tour on her own, but the decision has proven to be the right one for young Lorde. Lorde’s U.S. tour completely sold out back in January, a full two months before the tour started.
Katy Perry’s opening Acts
Without Lorde to perform as her opening act, Katy Perry has instead decided to feature various other artists alternating throughout the tour. Icona Pop, Capital Cities, Tegan and Sara, and Kacey Musgraves will perform opening acts during different parts of the tour. Perry’s tour will promote her newest album, “Prism”. The tour will take Perry and her collaborators to many countries around the world over the course of six months. There are 76 concert dates scheduled so far for the tour that will begin in Belfast on May 8th.
